Services OfferedLibrary services are offered by two sections; Public Services Section and Technical Services Section.
1. PUBLIC SERVICES SECTION
Reference Services Staff at the Reference desk handles a variety of enquiries, ranging from general information and quick reference enquiries, to assisting users on literature search for project work, assignments and research topics. Assistance is also provided on the use of CD-ROMs, Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) and other electronic information sources. Press cuttings and journals are also maintained here.
Information Literacy
Inter Library Loan Since // the Library cannot meet all the demand of its users, the library offers services w here books are borrowed from other libraries to be used by our users. Requests should be put in writing and handed over to the Reference Librarian.
Catalogues Computer terminals are available for accessing the OPAC. Staff at the Reference section are available to assist those who are not familiar on the use of facilities.
CDs The Library has a number of useful CD ROM database. These disks are accessed on the computers with OPAC at the Reference Area.
Circulation Services The Library is automated. Borrowing of books from the library is subject to library Rules and Regulations. All informational materials except those designated as Reference, periodical, newspapers, press cuttings may be borrowed for use outside the library. Items for loan are borrowed at the issue desk. The librarian is empowered to levy fine on readers who fail to return materials within the stipulated loan period.
Long and Short loan At the Issue Desk, users can borrow books on either long or short loans. Books on long loans are lent for fourteen (14) days for students and for one (1) month for teaching and non-teaching staff.
Books on short loan are lent for two (2) hours or for overnight use. Short term loan period is determined by demand.
2. TECHNICAL SERVICES SECTION
This is the section that works behind the scenes. Services offered here are:
· Acquisition This involves liaising with the head of the section in the selection and ordering of library information materials, physical processing of information materials (Stamping and assigning electronic bar codes).
· Bibliography This involves online cataloguing and classification; preparation of accession lists and registers; and, development and maintenance of the library database.
· Minor repairs Repairing torn and worn out books and other reading materials. Simple binding is also done here.
· Other administrative services Coordinating practical attachment offered by the library to students from various institutions.
